Book Blogger Hop 10/15

Book Blogger Hop

Each weekend, Jennifer at Crazy-for-Books hosts the Book Blogger Hop.  It is a great way for book lovers and book bloggers to find new book blogs and get to know each other.  Each week there is a new, fun question to answer.  I hope you will take some time to hop over and check out some of the other great blogs participating!

Today is a special Book Blogger Hop for me because it is my daughter's second birthday!!

This week's book blogging question is:  When you read a book that you just can't get into, do you stick it out and keep reading or do you move on to your next title?

I think this is a very interesting question since many of us receive books for review and feel that we have to finish something because we committed to reviewing it.  A long time ago, I would have just kept reading.  I remember buying a book that I had looked at many times when in bookstores.  I was drawn to it so many times that I finally decided to get it.  Well, it turned out to be so boring!  I don't mind long books but long, boring books are not for me.  I had spent money on it though so I finished it even though I was not enjoying it at all.  I think after that was when I finally gave myself permission to give up on a book.  There are way too many other things to read!  At this point, I've had some review books that I didn't care for but none that I truly couldn't finish.  I will give a review book more of a chance than a library book or even one off of our own shelves that my husband says I need to read.  I don't think I would be able to do a review on a book that I couldn't read completely though even if I stated that I did not finish the book.

If you have hopped over from the Mr. Linky, Welcome!  I hope you will stay a bit and look around. I review a wide range of books including (but not limited to!) urban fantasy, young adult, contemporary fiction, historical fiction, chic lit, cozy mystery, and some non-fiction.  I love getting comments so please let me know you stopped by!

  1. Hi! I'm stopping by from the hop!! Love your blog! I feel guilty not finishing review books, but even if I have paid full price for a book, if I hate it, I'll quit :)

  2. Dropping by via the Friday hops. :) I am also your newest follower. If you have the time, drop by Clandestine Sanctuary.

  3. Thanks for hopping by! I am hopping over to say Hi! I keep changing my background today because I found someone else that had mine :-( I like to be unique! Have a great day!

  4. Happy Birthday to your daughter! I loved the age of two. They're into everything, but if you look at the world through their eyes the world is such a wonder.

Anyway, I don't get many books for review, though I just got an offer for two and am going to ask you if you'd like to review them as well. The publisher is looking for librarians and teachers to review them. I don't like giving out info without asking the person first. The publisher's website is if you want to check them out. They will send the books to you. Just let me know and I'll give you the publishers email.

Anyway, I try to get through a book, especially if they are slow starters, but if I turn to a book in the middle and still can't enjoy it, forget it. Someone pointed out to me that frame of mind could have somethng to do with it and that's true. If I'm trying to read a drama and I'm having problems, maybe I should be reading something lighter.

  5. Hi, I'm hopping by and am a new follower. Happy birthday to your daughter!

I hate giving up on books so it's rare that I do but there have been many that I've had to work at pushing through.

    Here's My Hop

  6. I agree. There's just way too much to read out there. As for books I receive for review, I try a little harder but it's easier said than done.

  7. Hi! Stopping by from the blog hop. My answer to the question is here.

I'm your newest follower...I hope you'll return the favor.

Happy blogging (and happy birthday to the little one :)

  8. I always try to finish a book, but occasionally I've realised I just don't care enough to find out what happens and stopped. All the same, even with a library book I have to remind myself that I'm not obliged to finish - even when I haven't invested any money in this book.

  9. Happy birthday to your daughter! I have a 2yo son, it's a wonderful age!

I don't really get books for review but with books I've bought, I used to push through and finish them. Now I mostly just put them aside and move on. Chances are I'll get back to anything I haven't finished later!

Hope you have a wonderful weekend :)

  10. Thanks for visiting my blog. I'm already a follower here. I just can't seem to give up reading a book even if it stinks.

  11. If I get a book to review, I feel obligated to finish it even though I didn't like it. If a book is so boring that we don't want to keep reading, then we don't. Like you said, there are too many good books around to waste time on one we don't enjoy. Some start slow but get good later so I generally give a book up to 100 pages before I quit on it. The only exception to this was "Gerald's Game" by Stephen King. That one I quit on after just one chapter.

  12. Happy HOP! The more I read the more I feel that reading should never be something you force yourself to do. Most times if I can't get a connection with the book it's because I'm not meant to read it at that moment. I stop and try again later. But if I'm obviously not liking it and it doesn't feel good, why would I keep reading? So yeah, I stop now. Hope you have a great weekend :)

    HOP by and visit me

  13. Happy Follow Friday!!! Hope you will stop by my blog too! My publisher and I are looking for a group of bloggers for a huge blog tour next year before the release of book two in my 'A Sense of Truth' series! We will be giving out a few more copies of The Thirteenth Chime (we can only give out so many, being open to e-books gives an upper hand) and are still open to all interviews and guest posts. We want to fill up the Amazon page with reviews and try to reach as many people as we can!!! Hope you might consider being a part of the team! Thank you either way!
