Books #Blogflash2013

I have read to both my daughters since they were born. Before they understood the words, before they cared about the pictures, I was reading. My four year old loves our reading time. Whenever she is tired, she grabs a book and climbs into my lap. It is one of my favorite parts of the day. We always read at least one book at bedtime, more if she talks me into it. Sometimes she will say things in a certain voice or use phrasing and I think, "Now where did she learn that?" I should know by now that it is from one of our stories. I love that she asks to go to the library to get new books and then we have ones that we read over and over again. My youngest hears these stories too when she is awake and I know that she will take it all in as well. I hope that they will carry a love of these stories with them as they grow even though their books may be in a different format than mine.

  1. Oh Angela, it's a fine, fine thing that you do for your girls. My mother did the same for me, and truly my fondest memories are of her reading to me and our picking out books together. I still picture our old rec-room lined with shelves full of the books we read together- MY books.

  2. My sisters used to read to me when I was a kid. It was great fun, though I think they didn't love it that much (being pre-teens/teens at that time). ;)

  4. This is so sweet! I remember going on weekly trips to a library right near my grandparents' home, and I'm sure your daughters will have fond memories of books and reading with you as well.

  7. I read aloud to my boys, too! Later, when they were in school, the three of us would curl up on the couch and read silently together--each with our own books. The boys are 23 and 25 now, and just last night I sat with my younger son and read for two hours--each with our Kindles. Interestingly enough, he was reading Game of Thrones and I was reading YA. lol

  8. That's a wonderful way to teach your children all about books. I'm sure they will always treasure those moments!
