We all see things differently based on our past, our present, and our hopes for our future. My experiences color how I see the world and your experiences, similar and different, color your view. You and I can read the same book and see it in different ways. This is one of the joys of reading.
Unfortunately this is also one of the causes of controversy. Words written with one intent by the author can be viewed with a different intent based on the perspective of the reader. We may interpret words based on the emotional reactions that they inspire in us. Sometimes we react quickly without thinking that we could be adding layers to the words that may not be seen by others.
I wonder how much moral outrage could be avoided if we all took a deep breath and a step back to view situations from a different perspective?

Good question to end your piece on. xx
ReplyDeleteSo true...there is so much impatience and with that comes misunderstanding. A deep breath and compassion is what's needed!
ReplyDeleteThis is a great point, Angela. Sites like Twitter and Facebook make it so easy to put words out there in front of thousands. Once they are out there, there is no going back...
ReplyDeleteI agree, great observation x.
ReplyDeleteVery astute observations and I totally agree. I know someone who's published an e-book and it was slammed by a reviewer who didn't take a step back and look at the real message within the words.
